Day trading is high risk. Most people who try it lose money. Everything here is education, not advice. Read the risks

Scanners — coming soon.

A range of momentum day-trading scanners for US small-cap stocks is in development. Thousands of tickers move every session; a scanner filters them down to the few that match clear, objective criteria, so you spend the open looking at candidates instead of hunting for them.

A scanner finds candidates. It does not tell you what to buy, and nothing it shows is advice or a promise of returns.

What a scanner does

From thousands of tickers to a short list

Which scanners launch first, and exactly what each one looks for, will be announced on this site. The idea behind all of them is the same.

  • Watch the whole market

Thousands of US tickers move every session. A scanner watches them all at once, in real time.

  • Filter on clear criteria

Only stocks that match objective conditions make the list, so the open starts with candidates, not a search.

  • You make the decision

A scanner shows what is moving. Whether a name fits your plan, and how much to risk, stays your call.

What a result can look like

An illustration of the general idea, filled with invented example data. The real scanners, their columns and their layout may look different.

Momentum concepts

What momentum scanners look at

The same ideas the guides teach. They describe what makes a small-cap stock worth a look, not fixed rules or promised settings.

  • Price

Small-cap momentum tends to happen in a particular price range, where moves are large relative to the share price.

  • Gap

How far a stock trades from the previous close. A big gap suggests something has changed.

  • Relative volume

Today's volume compared with what is usual for that time of day. It shows whether the interest is broad.

  • Float

The number of shares available to trade. A small float can mean fast moves in both directions.

  • Catalyst

A headline that may explain the move, such as earnings, a filing, or a contract.

No combination of these guarantees anything. The criteria and settings of each scanner will be published when it launches.

Planned directions

Built around the scanners

Ideas we are working towards. They are planned, not promised: features may arrive in stages, change, or be dropped before launch.

  • Planned

    Real-time alerts

Notifications when a stock matches the criteria you care about.

  • Planned

    News context

Headlines next to the move, so a stale story is not mistaken for something new.

  • Planned

    Watchlists

The names you are following, kept in one place through the session.

Subject to change.
